Quality running shoes

Athletes should be training in shoes designed to handle higher mileage. You will be putting a lot of miles on shoes throughout the season so it is wise to replace your training shoes every season. Using other types of shoes, such as basketball or Nike free runs, will likely result in pain and injury. Trustworthy brands that make quality running shoes include Brooks, Asics, and Hoka One One. If you are looking to buy a Nike shoe, the only model that can be trusted to handle the mileage of a cross country/distance track athlete would be the Air/Zoom Pegasus shoe. Road runner Sports (1975 Diamond Blvd) in Concord and Fleet Feet (354 Merchant St) in downtown Vacaville are great places to shop for athletes who are new to the sport.

Watch capable of taking splits

A running watch is required for athletes for a couple of reasons. Many of our runs will be timed runs, so it’s essential for an athlete to have a time on them to ensure that they don’t run too long or short. Athletes will also be expected to take their own splits during workout days. A watch that takes splits will be able to recall all times from the workout which benefits coaches/athletes to see if the athlete was performing the workout correctly. Affordable watches that take splits can be found
